27th July - Body-Tensioned Loom Weaving

In this workshop you will be weaving on simple body-tensioned looms comprising a 4” wide Rigid Heddle and a Back-strap. Looms will be setup ready, so following a brief demonstration of the basic techniques, students will be able to get weaving!
As you gain confidence Rebecca will offer guidance and support, encouraging experimentation with a range of yarn colours, thicknesses, textures and fibres, to include the British Wools and Natural-dye colours used in her own designs. Throughout the day Rebecca will introduce new techniques and demonstrate warping, threading and tensioning on these looms. Students will move onto a new loom to begin a series of sample weaves using their preferred yarn types, colours and techniques.

Everyone will have their own loom which they can take home to complete their weaving. At the end of the workshop we will discuss finishing your weaving and what you can do with it; perhaps a wall hanging, a trim on a garment or a cushion, or with some simple stitching made into a pocket for .. what ever you need one for!
